Soft Shell Turtle ~ Tuesdays' Show & Tail

Welcome to Tuesdays' Show & Tail! I hope everyone will join me this week by posting a picture or two of your pets, wildlife or visit to the zoo and tell a little about them! Tuesdays' Show & Tail is about having fun, and giving us a chance to meet other pet owners in the blogging community. If you are visiting and would like to join in on the fun, please do so! Everyone is welcome. It is very easy to do. Take a look at my guidelines here.

Saturday I was on my way home from picking up my daughter from a friends house when I saw something in the road. It was a soft shell turtle sunning itself. My daughter's friend was also with us to spend the night so she got to see something she had never seen before.

I would say it was about the size of a dinner plate. Some people actually eat them for dinner! Not me! I could never do that at all. Has anyone ever ate a soft shell turtle out there? Inquiring minds would like to know!
We watched him for a little while until he got off the road. I didn't want him to get hit by a car so I kept telling him he needed to move.

Look at the claws on him! You couldn't get me to touch this guy for nothing. He might would take my fingers off!

Heading back where he came from.

Not far from where we seen the soft shell turtle is a farm with a hillside covered in yellow daffodils. Spring is in the air this week. I hope everyone has a great week.

I call that type of turtle a snapping turtle. I'm not familiar with soft shell ones. I wouldn't touch him...

That's a big sucker - I thought it was a snapper too, but the tail isn't as spikey as a snapper we seen around here!

I love the flowers and looking at the turtle - but touching and tasting - I will leave for more of an exciting person. I have a hard enough time eating chickens and beef! lol

For some reason it never occurred to me that turtles have a tail! You would think I'd know that at my age!
I remember reading that they have to lay on a warm surface to get their body temperature up in order to digest their food.
I think snakes do that too.
I enjoyed your post. Thank you

I love those daffodils almost as much as I'm fascinated by turtles! Never eaten one. Not after having a tortoise named "Shelly" as a pet! They are such interesting creatures and the fact that they have endured for so long says a lot! Thanks again for hosting! Ann

I love turtles, except for snapping turtles. I don't remember seeing one with a long tail like that before.

I can't imagine eating one. I didn't know they had such long tails. Don't blame you for not touching him. He looked like he has a bit of a tmeper.

I love turtles! I could not eat one! My niece was on a high school study in Mexico and she said they fed her turtle tacos! She was not a happy camper. Never said much about it. I have heard of turtle soup too. Love the photo. Have a terrific week Anne

That's a pretty big turtle! I wouldn't get near him either!
There were a lot of box turtles where I grew up. I played with those a lot when I was a kid.
I've never eaten turtle. I don't think I want to either.
Those daffodils are so pretty!

Nice pictures! Those guys can get mean, i think--i remember one slamming against the side of my car once when I stopped to talk to him. He was powerful!

I couldn't eat anything that's so grumpy looking it's cute!

Plus, don't they live for ages? I'd have a hard time taking something as old as me and having it for dinner somehow.
