WV Cultural Center ~ Pink Saturday

It's Pink Saturday!!!! Today I thought I would share a few pictures of some quilts that I took while visiting the Cultural Center in Charleston, West Virginia during the Summer. They had just had a quilt show and these were just a few of the quilts that were on display.

Today I would like to show you a new discovery of mine. This is a picture of an African Violet that is named "West Virginia".

A new and distinct cultivator of African violet named West Virginia characterized by its single, pink, wavy and frilled flowers with darker center radiating irregularly into the 2 small petals; dark pink line on the edges, especially of the two small petals; strong, upright flower stems that curve toward the center to form a compact bouquet above the leaves; dark green slightly serrated leaves, profuse flowering, vigorous growth habit, flowering 10-11 weeks after potting, and its long lasting and non-dropping flowers. First introduced in 1988.

I also discovered another interesting fact about West Virginia. There is actually a small town called "Pink, West Virginia"! How about that? Who would have thought there would be a town called Pink, West Virginia?

Pink, West Virginia is located in Calhoun County not far from Arnoldsburg, West Virginia.

This week I am posting two different pictures of my daughter's birthday cake's that I made her when she was 8 and 9 years old. As you can see, we have a cake monster in our house! My little boy can't resist a cake sitting out on the counter. He just gets a fork and digs in. lol

Pink Giraffe ~ Pink Saturday

Happy Pink Saturday Everybody! I would like to thank Beverly at How Sweet the Sound for hosting today's event! Please visit her to see all of the other participants in this week's Pink Saturday event.

West Virginia sure is Wild and Wonderful! Today I would like to show you the Pink Giraffe that is just off of I64 in Huntington, West Virginia on the 29th Street Bridge exit. I think she would look great beside of the Pink Elephant which I featured in one of my previous Pink Saturday posts! The Pink Giraffe has been in that area for as long as I can remember just like the Pink Elephant. If you want to see them in person they are only about 5 miles apart. ~ As far as I know there is not a story about the Pink Giraffe. It is right in front of a used car lot right now. I'm sure that the current business is not the original owner of this giant Pink Giraffe. I wish I knew more.

West Virginia Glass ~ Pink Saturday

Today I thought I would showcase one of favorite collections, West Virginia Glass. I have been collecting this particular design with the Red and Pink Roses on it for over 17 years. My first piece was found at a Flea Market in Charleston, West Virginia. It was a tall pitchers with 6 tall tea glasses. I had never seen a piece of glass so beautiful before. My boyfriend, now husband, bought it for me for $17.00 for the whole set. He has since then found various other pieces to add to my collection. This is a picture of my latest additions to my collection.

Pink Elephant ~ Pink Saturday

The Pink Elephant is a fixture in Barboursville, West Virginia. It always puts a smile on my face when I drive by and see it in all it's glory "Pink". The Pink Elephant has been there as long as I can remember. I hope everyone enjoys The Pink Elephant!!!

Pink Saturday!

I know it, I'm not very good at this getting myself added to the Pink Saturday List but I am going to post anyway!

This is a picture of a Pink Elephant that I have seen in front of this business every since I was a child.

Can you believe that a couple years ago someone or a group of someones actually painted the Pink Elephant Green! They painted it Green because of a Marshall Football Game that week. The owners quickly painted the elephant back to it's original color of Pink. I did see it on the news after it was painted Green. I'm glad they didn't keep it Green and returned the elephant back to the color of Pink.

I have been looking at other bloggers post for Pink Saturday and I have been intrigued to do one for this Saturday! I truly am surprised at all of the pink out there in blogging land! I'm sorry that I didn't have time yesterday to sign up with someone who is hosting the pink party, but I am nonetheless going to post anyway.

When I think of Butter Cream, I think of the Butter cream Frosting that I make for Birthday Cakes! When I was a little girl I went to 4-H Camp and took cake decorating classes. This is the receipt that they gave us to make Butter Cream Frosting which I think is the best!

Butter Cream Frosting

1 cup Crisco Shortening

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon vanilla

1/4 to 1/2 cup water

2 boxes Confectionery Sugar

This will make enough to decorate one cake with all of the pretty stuff on it or two cakes that are just plain and simple.

Mix Crisco, salt, vanilla and 1/4 water with a little Confectionery Sugar, adding the Confectionery Sugar a little at a time until you get the desired consistency to decorate. I only use Wilton's tint to tint the frosting. Enjoy!

As you can see from the pictures above, my daughter loves this particular cake design as we have done it for several birthday parties. And looking at the second picture you can see that we have a Cake Monster at our house! Yes, my little boy can't resist a cake on the counter! lol Over the past couple of years, and he is only 4, he always gets into a cake that is sitting on the counter. I have to hide any cake that I want to serve for guests!
