Old Farm in Maryland

Not far from Canaan Valley, West Virginia there are a lot of beautiful farms in Maryland. Some of those farms are occupied by Amish families. As we were driving by I took a few pictures of the beautiful farms.

This farm was an old abandoned farm complete with an old farm house and barn.

I think someone still uses the barn to store hay because if you look real close you can see the round bales of hay to the right side of the barn.

Linking to Barn Charm!

We Seen Bears!

We seen Bears! Don't worry though. They weren't real bears! My Little Man couldn't resist getting on top of the one below to get his picture taken on it!

Then my Young Lady posed for a picture in front of this large bear that was in one of the stores we went into.

No one was harmed in the taking of the pictures for this post!

We seen Bears on our Vacation!!!

We seen Bears on our Vacation!!! Yes, Bears!!! The Black Bear is West Virginia's state animal. We did happen to have one in our yard about 7 years ago. It was 3 feet from our front porch. It quickly ran back into the woods when my husband closed our garage door to keep it from going in the garage.

At Canaan Valley there are lots of sightings of the black bear all over the area. They even give out handout warnings of what to do if you should encounter one while you are outside. They even tell us not to leave the kids unattended while they are outside playing. Why? Because Bears are BIG!!! Just take a look at the ones that we ran across while we were on vacation. Thank God I carry my camera with me everywhere I go so I won't miss those ever so important photo opportunities that just happen in the blink of an eye!

I made you laugh didn't I? lol Well, it wasn't a real black bear from West Virginia but a big stuffed animal bear at a store that we went into in Maryland called Bear Creek Trader. I couldn't resist taking it's picture so I could show it to everyone who looks at my blog ~ all 3 of you!!! hehehe

Is that big black bear attacking my daughter? No! hahaha

She got a kick out of getting her picture taken with that big black bear as you can see from the smile on her face!

And now for the Little Bear for my Little Man! You have to love a restaurant that has a statue of a bear outside. Again, I'm so glad that I had my camera with me! hehehe

Another cute picture of my Little Man with a bear cub!

Now, she really didn't want to take this picture but I talked her into it. lol We actually took the pictures with the small bear first. We ate then took pictures and then went to a store and took pictures of the first black bear. Have a Great Day!!!

Farms around the Amish in Maryland

I thought I would share a few pictures of the farms in the Amish area of Maryland not far from Canaan Valley, West Virginia that we seen on our way to the bakery. These pictures were taken on our way home from our visit to Maryland. I just put the camera out the window and snapped! lol I think they turned out pretty good to be from a moving vehicle don't you think?

A Visit to the Amish Community in Maryland

You can't go to Canaan Valley without making the half hour trip to Maryland to the Sugar & Spice Bakery. It is located just south of Oakland, Maryland. My husband loves their homemade apple pie. So, since we were there for Father's Day we made our trip to the Sugar & Spice Bakery on Monday morning since they are closed on Sundays.

This is a picture of the bread that I bought. It was really good.

And this is a picture of my husband's prized apple pie that he just loves and has to have when we are there. It is not sweet and that is why my husband likes it so much because he doesn't like sweet foods. My Little Man helped him to eat it because he too loves apples and pie!

Oops! Someone got into the Carrot Cake that my daughter wanted me to buy. I think that someone was me! lol I forgot to take a picture of it before I got me a piece of that yummy carrot cake. For some reason the Amish desserts aren't loaded with sugar like the ones that we are used to but they are really good.

I had to take a picture of the cookies before the kids ate them in the car! I missed taking a picture of the first cookie, oops again! lol And again, the Amish Sugar Cookie was not really sweet like our sugar cookies but they are really good.

I did buy some homemade blackberry jam but I didn't take a picture of it. They don't make it there is what they told me last year but they do get it from another Amish Lady who makes it for them.

They have a web page. It can be found at The Best Amish Cookbooks. If you are ever in the area you'll want to make that short drive to sample some of their goodies! Let me know if you do!
