Family Tree

Back when I first started West Virginia Treasures it was to be a place where I shared my family tree information with the family. I later took it all down. I still love looking for new information on my family tree and I treasure all of the new findings that I find. Here is just one of my many Treasures.

Virginius Fleetwood McClanahan and Barbara Adelia Melton McClanahan.

Virginius Fleetwood "Tobe" McClanahan was born on November 3, 1858 and died May 10, 1948. He married Adelia Barbara Melton, born on August 17, 1862 and died February 20, 1950.

They were my great great grand parents.

West Virginia Pioneers

I am pleased to announce that I have found another great site to search your West Virginia Roots. It is called West Virginia Pioneers. This site mostly covers the Pioneers of Jackson County, West Virginia. I was so excited when I found this site that I actually had tears coming out of my eyes. Mostly because this site had some additional information on my Corbin, Carney and Winter Families. They also have pictures of some of the grave stones and directions to the cemetery where they can be found. West Virginia Pioneers also has an Index to Wills of many of the Pioneers with the book and page number that they can be found at the Jackson County Courthouse. I can't wait to have the time to look at every little detail that they have on my families from Jackson County.

How to Find Your West Virginia Roots

I received a lot of questions about Genealogy from yesterday's post on Friday Family Foto day. I had planned on doing this post sometime soon. So after all of the inquiries and interest in Genealogy I thought I had better get it done ASAP! There are a lot of people out there that would love to find out some information about their family roots. Most of the places that I am going to list below will pertain to West Virginia only, but a few places will help you to find your ancestors no matter where you came from or live. So here they are!

~ The West Virginia Cultural Center ~ they have some birth records, death records and marriage records. FREE

~ http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/ I only look at the free stuff.

~ West Virginia Gazette ~ Library archives ~ a good place to find current information and some past information ~ there is a charge for some of this information in the archives.

~ West Virginia Genealogy ~ FREE

~ West Virginia Census Records Online ~ FREE www.census-online.com/link/wv/putnam

I know there are many more places to visit but this is a good place to get you started on your Treasure hunt!

As always GOOGLE is a good search tool. Just type in an old family name and see what comes up. Sometimes you are lucky and sometimes you're not.

Happy Pink Saturday to all!
