Farms around the Amish in Maryland

I thought I would share a few pictures of the farms in the Amish area of Maryland not far from Canaan Valley, West Virginia that we seen on our way to the bakery. These pictures were taken on our way home from our visit to Maryland. I just put the camera out the window and snapped! lol I think they turned out pretty good to be from a moving vehicle don't you think?

A Visit to the Amish Community in Maryland

You can't go to Canaan Valley without making the half hour trip to Maryland to the Sugar & Spice Bakery. It is located just south of Oakland, Maryland. My husband loves their homemade apple pie. So, since we were there for Father's Day we made our trip to the Sugar & Spice Bakery on Monday morning since they are closed on Sundays.

This is a picture of the bread that I bought. It was really good.

And this is a picture of my husband's prized apple pie that he just loves and has to have when we are there. It is not sweet and that is why my husband likes it so much because he doesn't like sweet foods. My Little Man helped him to eat it because he too loves apples and pie!

Oops! Someone got into the Carrot Cake that my daughter wanted me to buy. I think that someone was me! lol I forgot to take a picture of it before I got me a piece of that yummy carrot cake. For some reason the Amish desserts aren't loaded with sugar like the ones that we are used to but they are really good.

I had to take a picture of the cookies before the kids ate them in the car! I missed taking a picture of the first cookie, oops again! lol And again, the Amish Sugar Cookie was not really sweet like our sugar cookies but they are really good.

I did buy some homemade blackberry jam but I didn't take a picture of it. They don't make it there is what they told me last year but they do get it from another Amish Lady who makes it for them.

They have a web page. It can be found at The Best Amish Cookbooks. If you are ever in the area you'll want to make that short drive to sample some of their goodies! Let me know if you do!
