NASA ~ Bombing the Moon!!!!

For over a month now my mom has been telling me that NASA is planning on bombing the Moon! I thought she was hearing something crazy or something. But, low and behold I actually heard Brian Williams say it on the 6:30 news the other day. Now, he did kind of mumble it in my opinion. It seemed like to me that he didn't really want to report that information to us the taxpayers who are funding this bombing.

So today I was talking about it to several different people and apparently no one that I talked to knew anything about it at all! With that being said I got to wondering how many people out there even know or have heard of this crazy nonsense. It makes me want to speak french words! This upsets me beyond belief! Seriously! Bombing the Man in the Moon!!!

I've been googling trying to find out what time they are planing this event scheduled for Friday, October 9, 2009, and I finally found my answer on my local news. This is what they reported word for word:

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ-TV) -- The moon. It has captured the imagination of mankind since the beginning of time. So, come Friday morning... we're going to bomb it.
NASA's "L-CROSS" mission involves an un-manned rocket that will be followed by a separate satellite. That satellite will transmit live TV images and scientific data back to Earth.

At 7:30 a.m. (EST), the rocket will slam into a crater on the moon. Scientists hope this will cause a plume of rocks and dust and possibly ice to come flying off the moon.
Shortly after, the satellite will fly through the same plume and collect information and send it back to NASA scientists. It's a mission that's caught the eye of Marshall's Physics Department Chair Nico Orsini.

"We want to find out is there water, and how much of it," Orsini said. "So, this is all very exciting " But there are some who are weary of the mission. Whether it's the billions of dollars being spent, or just the actual bombing of the moon itself. But members of the scientific community say it is worth it.

"If you take one quart of water to the moon by spaceship, it costs $30,000," Orsini said. "So, the best scenario would be to have water on the moon.
Folks back here on Earth have several different options to watch Friday's lunar bombing. First, it will be on NASA TV. Check your cable or satellite provider to find out the channel listing.

You can also head to NASA.gov. They'll also be showing the event live. Finally, you can also try Slooh.com. It's a service that offers users access to two, huge earth-based telescopes so you can watch the event from your computer.
